overview
Worthing Museum and Art Gallery was founded in 1908 and is housed in a fine Edwardian building next to the Town Hall in Chapel Road. This provides spacious display areas on two floors, all being fully accessible with an external ramp to the main entrance and a lift to access the first floor galleries.
The collections are rich and varied, particularly reflecting the Worthing area. Skilled craftsmanship is evident in the tools, weapons and adornments of our early ancestors; Traditional practices are evoked by the bells and equipment of the Downland shepherds and the elegance of earlier times is illustrated by the costume collection, being one of the largest and finest in Britain. There are also permanent displays of childhood juvenilia and fine and decorative art. An exciting programme throughout the year of special exhibitions in the Art Gallery, the Studio Gallery, the Norwood Gallery and the Sculpture garden ensure the enjoyment of regular visits.
