overview
Originally built in 1873, the Briggait was the city's fish market. It has now transformed into a vibrant home for visual artists and cultural organisations. The 1873 Hall, once Glasgow's fishmarket, now part of the Briggait complex, it is both a unique working space and a versatile venue. As this is a working space with over 80 visual artists holding private studios, all events must take place on the weekends to limit disruption. We encourage events that enliven the space and encourage visitors to raise the profile of the building as well as reflecting the multiplicity of art forms represented by the Briggait community. t is both a listed building and a working cultural space, so all events must be the right fit. It should also be appreciated that the 1873 Hall is described as a covered outdoor space - it is unheated and not entirely closed off to the elements. The Briggait's 1873 Hall offers a stunning backdrop for events and performances.
