overview

The museum opened its doors in 1983 and is located on the original terminus of the worlds first inter-city railway, Liverpool Road. There are 5 Listed buildings, 2 of them listed as Grade I.

In 2011 the Great Western Warehouse, had a £9M refurbishment which houses the Conference Centre and our Revolution Manchester Gallery which has a 52 plasma media wall. A further soft refurbishment took place in 2015.

The museum has a dedicated conference centre offering six suites each named after Manchester exports from scientists to steam locomotives and telescopes. Fully equipped with state of the art AV, ergonomic furniture and WI-FI throughout.

Both the Revolution Manchester Gallery and The Power Hall, provide guests the opportunity to dine amongst some of the worlds oldest exhibits from the world of science and engineering including the worlds first stored computer.
