overview
Rain, shine or snow, there's always plenty to see and do on a visit to Norton Priory and Gardens. Norton Priory was built as the prosperous abode for a group of Augustinian canons in 1134. Life in 12th century Cheshire is recreated in displays in the prize winning museum. The beautiful Priory woodland gardens, covering 16 acres, also contain the excavated ruins, the 12th century undercroft, summerhouses, a Victorian rock garden and stream glade. A hundred years ago Sir Richard and Lady Brooke would have wandered through the Walled garden, enjoying the results of their gardeners' labours. Now carefully restored to include features familiar to them - a rose walk, herb garden, fruit arch and vegetable plots - today's Walled Garden offers plenty for the keen amateur gardener as well as for those who just enjoy a stroll in pleasant surroundings.
