overview

The Mirfield Monastery was founded in 1898 by Walter Howard Frere, later Bishop of Truro, establishing the Community of the Resurrection at its current home in Mirfield, West Yorkshire. Walter Frere was particularly concerned with Christian socialism and the women’s movement and in 1906 and 1907, he presided over conferences at Mirfield at which Keir Hardie and Emmeline Pankhurst participated.
