overview
The latest addition to a boozy family that already includes The Orange, The Pantechnicon and The Thomas Cubitt in SW1, this is Portman Village’s ‘new neighbourhood public house and hotel’. Kerbside, it looks like the sort of establishment you’d find on a small French town’s rue principale, the bleached-wood bourgeois interior roomy enough for a herd of the proverbial grazing quadrupeds. Two-dozen wines are offered by the glass, or you can dip into a superior beer selection that promises Badger Dandelion organic (albeit at £7.50 a pint); alternatively, go for cocktails – perhaps daiquiri royale or ‘billy goat’ (vodka, grapefruit juice, basil & raspberry purée). As for food, the kitchen offers bistro staples such as steak tartare, potted crab, oysters, burgers and a range of surf & turf from the rotisserie & grill, plus crumbles, tarts and cheesecake.
