overview
Victorian master builder Thomas Cubitt would no doubt have approved of the skilful restoration work that has gone into the Georgian interior of this ‘gorgeous’ pub, which honours his name. Original fireplaces and wall panels combine to elegant effect in the bar, where ‘prompt, motivated’ staff serve up capably rendered British food. Start with potted ham hock and piccalilli or London-cure smoked salmon salad before super-fresh, beer-battered fish & chips or Lincolnshire rabbit with herb mash. Guests in the dainty upstairs dining room can pick from more refined dishes such as Shetland salmon with samphire & lemon pickle. The whopping wine list will keep Old and New World enthusiasts happy, although a pint of properly kept Adnams on the roadside terrace is hard to beat.
